Two cars, coming from different directions, arrive at a 4-way stop at the same time. Who goes first?
What do you do when there is a flashing yellow left arrow light and you want to turn left?
When can you make a legal U-turn?
In your state, how old can a child be before they don’t have to sit in a child safety seat?
Memaw drove until the day she died. In fact, she drove to church that morning. After service, she got into her car, had another heart attack, and died in the driver’s seat of her car. Her car was a Jeep Grand Cherokee:)
She loved to drive but when I got my license, she let me do all the driving. We had many, many adventures. Having a car that was a 4-wheel drive, we went everywhere. We would chase down fires, follow police cars, and tail hot air balloons to see where they would land. We would hit some rough terrain sometimes but never got stuck. We had a lot of fun.
This is probably why I love to drive. I can drive for hours and not get tired. I do most of the driving in my own family because I enjoy it so much. Now, navigating…not my forte! And don’t get me started on my right or my left….:(
Most of us took driver’s education classes back in high school. In Michigan, you took them when you were 15 ½ years old and got your license at 16. So, looking back, I have been driving for 45 years. That’s a long time.
AARP is an organization for older people–usually 50 and older. I volunteer for them to teach a Safe Driver class. This is an 8-hour class, split up into 2 days, that teaches older adults some things they may have forgotten in the 40+ years since they took driver’s ed. It also teaches them any new laws, new pavement markings, and all the new safety features on the newer cars. It costs $20-25 to take the class and at the end, you get a completion certificate that is mailed to the secretary of state’s office. There are no tests in the class and when they send the certificate to their insurance, they get a small break on the cost of their auto insurance for 3 years.
It is a great class, anyone can take it (even those who are not part of AARP or are younger than 50 years old), and it is offered in all 50 states, throughout the year. You can even take it online. Answers to the above questions…
The car that is on the immediate right gets to go first if both cars arrive at the same time.

You can make a legal U-turn at any intersection unless otherwise posted.
For Illinois, children under 8-years-old must be in a child safety seat.
